Today is our last day of instruction! Please be sure to give me any textbooks you have for this class. If you are one of the selected students eligible for the optional final project, remember it is due no later than May 28th.

Monday, 5/10/2021:
Last week, we began watching Shakespearean plays. English I is watching Romeo & Juliet and Honors English I is watching A Midsummer Night's Dream. I frequently pause the play so that we can discuss the dialogue and answer discussion questions together as a class to ensure understanding of complex language and themes. Students are required to complete the discussion questions as we go along. We will continue watching these plays this week.
Monday, 5/3/2021:
Sonnet projects are due today! Students are expected to be prepared to present their sonnets at the beginning of class. If you have not completed your project, you need to have it to me as soon as possible! This is a project grade.
Thursday, 4/29/2021:
Wednesday and Thursday this week was dedicated to the sonnet project. Students have the whole class period for two classes to work on their projects. The sonnet project is due Monday, 5/3. Students are expected to arrive to class ready to present their sonnets.
Friday, 4/23/2021:
Yesterday, we reviewed the guided reading questions and vocabulary for The Song of Roland. Students should have turned these in either in class or Google Classroom following our review. We are continuing with our Europe unit with sonnets. Students were assigned guided reading for sonnets in the textbook. The front page of this worksheet should be completed for Monday's class.

Students have completed reading Book 1 of the Iliad and completed a corresponding assessment. We are now reading Book 22 of the Iliad. Students are expected to complete the given guided reading questions as to encourage conversations as well as create their own study guide for the next assessment.

Monday, 11/30/2020:
As we read the Iliad, it is important that students follow along in the textbook and actively participate during our class discussions. This is especially important as we work virtually this week. Students are expected to work on the Iliad Book 1 Guided Questions as we read through this epic poem. By doing so, students are creating their own study guide for the next assessment.

Today is a remote learning day for all students. To be marked present, students are required to login to Google Classroom and complete the posted assignment. We do not have classes the rest of the week for Thanksgiving Break. Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is the Parts of Speech Unit Test. Students will begin working in the textbook following the test. I have been reminding students for weeks to pick up a copy of the textbook. If students still have not picked up a textbook, please do do ASAP; you will not be able to follow the rest of the class without it.

Students completed their Unit 3 vocabulary quiz today. Please remind your students the importance of studying and taking detailed notes.
We are nearing the end of our grammar unit. Students worked on their last independent practice for parts of speech after the quiz today, and they will be assigned a project tomorrow -- which we will discuss thoroughly. This project will be worked on during class time, and students have the choice of working independently or with a partner/group. The due date is the beginning of class on 11/9. Students should come to class prepared to present.
Homework: If you did not complete the Parts of Speech Practice worksheet after the quiz today, please complete it for homework.

We reviewed Unit 3 vocabulary definitions, parts of speech, and sentence examples during class today. Students should actively participate and take notes as we review as to improve quiz grades. Unit 3 vocab. quiz will be Monday, 11/2.

Today during our all virtual day, students completed a Unit 2 vocab. review by using Gimkit. Students were expected to have completed this during class time and should study their vocab. for homework. Unit 2 vocab. quiz is tomorrow, Thursday, 10/15.

During class today, we will finish watching parts of The Diary of Anne Frank. Night vs. The Diary of Anne Frank compare & contrast is due tomorrow.

This is just a reminder that students are expected to check this website, Google Classroom, Remind, and student school emails. Important information is posted to these platforms frequently. Additionally, it is imperative that ALL students participate in class; this includes all virtual students. Students will begin losing points for lack of participation during class time.
